Johanna Konta still holds hopes of WTA Finals spot despite bowing out of Wuhan Open
The 6-3, 6-4 defeat did not help her hopes of qualifying for the WTA Finals in Singapore but at least Madison Keys, her closest rival for a place in the eight-woman showcase event, also lost.
The American was walloped 6-4, 6-2 by Simona Halep yesterday so ending her chances of putting any distance between herself and Konta in the chase to Singapore.
Next week, though, the tour moves on to Beijing where there are 1,000 ranking points on offer to the winner and if Konta can reach the quarter-finals or better, that ticket to the WTA Finals could still be within reach.
