And despite a spirited century from Imrul Kayes, the hosts were whittled out for 288 as Notts bowler Ball finished with figures of 5-51 on his ODI debut.
Jos Buttler and Ben Duckett also impressed with half-centuries as England's middle order steadied the ship.
