When SSI UK went into liquidation exactly a year ago , the shockwaves were felt across Teesside and the world.
And for Amanda Skelton, it meant she was not only chief executive of Redcar and Cleveland Council , she became chair of the Task Force set up to help all those losing their jobs.
One year on, around nine in 10 (1,990) of the 2,150 SSI and other workers who made an initial application for benefits have since ended that claim.
But with some people still struggling, and the future of the sprawling steelworks site up in the air, she knows there’s a lot of work left to do.
