‘It’s a terrible idea to let the army be exempt from human rights laws’
 

Theresa May is about to announce that the army will be exempted from many parts of human rights law while in combat.
Accusing human rights lawyers of launching ‘spurious’ claims against soldiers, vowing to fight against what she calls an ‘industry of vexatious claims that has pursued those who served in previous conflicts’.
In a joint statement with defence secretary Sir Michael Fallon, May says that in future conflicts the UK will opt out of the ECHR (European Convention on Human Rights).
