​Is this the future of cycling in the city? Soulsby considers lanes between parked cars and pavement



Sir Peter Soulsby is considering running new cycle lanes in between cars parked on the roadside and pavements to improve safety.
Leicester's mayor says the approach could protect riders because the stationary vehicles would act as a physical barrier between cyclists and parallel traffic on the roads.
He said the practice - already common in Europe and the USA - might prevent accidents like that which claimed the life of teacher Sam Boulton in July.
The 26-year-old died in July outside Leicester station after being knocked into the path of a moving van by a passenger opening a taxi door.
