Is the A1 Western Bypass better since the roadworks? We took a look to see

It brought almost two years of motoring misery to thousands of commuters.
In July, eight miles of extra lanes between the MetroCentre and Coal House in Gateshead were finally opened up to motorists after a two-year project.
But how has it made any difference? We took a trip down the road to see if it really had improved, see for yourself in our video above.
As well as more lanes, the £61m scheme includes two new parallel link roads between Lobley Hill and Gateshead Quays.
