Inquest date set for new mum found hanged at Low Newton jail days after giving birth
 

The findings of an investigation into the death of a mother in a women’s jail just days after she had given birth will be revealed next month.
Michelle Barnes, from Carlisle, was found hanged at Low Newton Prison on December 16 last year, six days after she had given birth.
A two-week inquest into her death is set to be heard by a jury at County Durham and Darlington Coroner’s Court from October 17.
Her partner has claimed that the 33-year-old was told by a prison guard that she “would never see her daughter again” which left her distressed.
