In today's low interest rate world, investment trusts are struggling to match the income payouts they have maintained in recent years.
As of May this year, just 18 trusts above £80million in size yielded 4 per cent or more, down from 21 at the start of the year.
In this environment, it is unsurprising that peer-to-peer investment trusts - which offer investors an annual income of up to 10 per cent - have raised more than £1.8billion in the past few years.
