Ian Poulter has first US strokeplay title and Masters spot in his sights as he heads into final round in Houston



No-one gave Ian Poulter a prayer of winning the Houston Open to earn the last spot into the Masters after he opened with a mediocre 73 – including himself.
Lying a lowly 123rd, and with an early second round tee-time on Friday, he packed his bags, checked out of his hotel and provisionally booked himself on an afternoon flight home to Orlando.
What has happened since, however, has taken him to within 18 holes of an extraordinary triumph following the best back-to-back rounds of even his stellar career.
