I've never met the 'commissioner' responsible for local schools, says Newcastle council boss
 

The leader of Newcastle City Council has admitted he doesn’t know the name of the ‘commissioner’ responsible for 200 schools in the North.
And the council has no contact with her - even though it is meant to help improve the schools she oversees.
Councillor Nick Forbes made the admission to highlight the “ludicrous” system of regional school commissioners introduced by the government.
He was speaking at a fringe event at Labour’s annual conference in Liverpool - where he also condemned the Government’s plans for new grammar schools.
