'I'd have to give up work to start a family' says city education chief
 

Birmingham’s education and child protection chief has said she may have to give up work as there is no maternity pay, sick pay or pension.
Labour councillor Brigid Jones is paid £25,000 a year as cabinet member for children’s services, responsible for a £1.2 billion budget and thousands of staff.
But after asking what would happen if she decided to start a family she was told she has no standard employment rights, not maternity pay and the council does not have a maternity policy for elected politicians.
