Hurricane Matthew death toll nears 900 as storm continues to batter east coast of America
 

The death toll from Hurricane Matthew continued to mount today as the storm ravaged its way up the east coast of America.
Almost 900 Haitians are known to have lost their lives as Hurricane Matthew flattened the island on it's way north.
The death toll is officially at 877, but is expected to rise as many villages have been cut off. Tens of thousands of people have also been displaced on the island.
Matthew smashed through Haiti's western peninsula on Tuesday with 145mph winds and torrential rain.
