Hull City caretaker manager Mike Phelan left confused by his position says friend Steve McClaren

Hull City left caretaker manager Mick Phelan "not knowing where the hell he was" by failing to give him a contract or assurances over his future, his friend Steve McClaren has said.
McClaren, who worked with Phelan under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, also said the uncertainty over the manager's position and takeover was starting to have an impact on City's performances.
Speaking at the KCOM after watching City's defeat to Chelsea, McClaren said he had spoken to Phelan before the first game of the season.
