Huge underground water tank is installed in Jarrow to help prevent flooding
 

A water tank that holds half of an Olympic-sized swimming pool of water has been installed in Jarrow in a bid to prevent flooding.
Located under the King George V playing fields, the tank reaches seven metres below the ground and was constructed to reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
Built by Galliford Try Infrastructure Ltd, the 1150 cubic metre water container is so large that it can hold as much water that has been distributed to runners during the Great North Run over the past 11 years, Gino Salvatore, Galliford Try Infrastructure’s business development manager, said.
