How to avoid new iTunes gift card scam which has conned victims out of thousands of pounds
 

Scammers pretending to be from HMRC have been conning victims out of thousands of pounds.
Voicemails and text messages telling unsuspecting victims they owe an outstanding debt which can be paid using an iTunes gift card voucher code.
The fraudsters put pressure on those they contact by claiming that failure to pay the “debt” will lead to a fine or even an arrest.
Once the victims purchase an iTunes card, the criminals ask them to read out the serial code on the back over the phone.
When the conmen have the serial code they are then free to use it, at the victim’s expense.
