How Passchendaele VC hero inspired Coventry folk to buy hundreds of new tanks



Arthur Hutt is a name you may never have heard – but he was the war hero who moved an entire city to cough up their savings.
The First World War VC winner’s valour played a key part in an incredible fundraising campaign.
In just one week, the people of Coventry contributed enough cash to buy a staggering 274 tanks.
And that was largely down to Corporal Hutt, the local celebrity tasked with inspiring the local populace to dig deep during Coventry Tank Week.
