How my grandfather carried a banner in the Jarrow Crusade, 80 years ago
 

In the week when the 80th anniversary of the Jarrow Crusade is commemorated, one man recalls how his grandfather appears - carrying a banner - in some of the iconic photographs that captured the event.
On October 5, 1936, 200 men from Jarrow, a town ravaged by unemployment, began their 291-mile march to London.
The Jarrow Crusade carried a petition, calling for the re-establishment of industry in the town and, quite simply, the right to work.
Kevin McNulty, 53, who lives in Hebburn and works for South Tyneside Council, remembers his grandfather, John McNulty, who took part in the Crusade.... read more
