​How Leicestershire market towns can protect their high streets and create jobs



Market towns across Leicestershire are being urged to take part in a three pronged campaign to protect their high streets and create hundreds of jobs.
A study of 11 market towns has been compiled to reduce the blight of empty commercial premises caused by both out of town retail centres and online shopping.
Latest figures show almost 10 per cent of the 1,924 shops, restaurants, pubs and offices across the town centres are standing empty.
The centres employ a total of 25,000 people boosting the economy by £1.1billion.
