House prices leapt by more than £1k a month last year - but will they continue to rise throughout 2017?



The value of the average home leaped by more than £14,000 over 2016, new figures suggest. 
Average property prices finished 2016 at a record high of £222,484, up by 6.5 per cent in December when compared to the same month in 2015. 
Prices jumped 1.7 per cent month-on-month in December, which was the largest increase since March, according to the latest Halifax house price index.
The latest rises defy predictions before the EU referendum that prices would drop should Britain vote to leave.
