0 Have your say An exhausted horse had to be put to sleep because she was suffering with extreme shock after swimming miles downstream in an attempt to free herself from a canal.
The horse was spotted by a passer-by on Sunday, October 9 at Gringley Lock, near Gringley-on- the-Hill.
RSPCA inspector Becky Harper said: “We received a call about a bay mare who had been spotted in the canal.
“The caller then reported to us that the horse had managed to get herself out of the canal, and subsequently followed the lady back to the village, where she was secured on a farm. The poor horse had... read more
