Hero piper who died at the Somme to be honoured by hometown Bellshill 100 years on
 

A WAR hero who was killed trying to retrieve his bagpipes from a battlefield is to be honoured in his home town, 100 years on.
Private Jimmy Richardson piped to give his comrades inspiration as they went over the top of the trenches at the Somme in October 1916.
He then threw the pipes down and carried injured soldiers to safety.
Jimmy, 20, died in a hail of German fire when he went back to get his pipes.
The hero, from Bellshill, Lanarkshire, was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross for his courage.
