Commonly referred to as ‘middle aged spread’, experiencing a gradual increase in bodyweight from your 40s is not due to lack of exercise or poor diet, according to recent research.
A study by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, published in May, revealed it was down to a particular enzyme that promotes weight gain.
Additionally, metabolism slows as you get older, causing a natural shift in body composition.
