Has the Mayfield Depot developer just thrown a lifeline to the Star and Garter pub?
 

It would be a ‘crime’ to knock down the Star and Garter pub near Piccadilly Station according to the boss of a developer embarking on an £850m project to redevelop the nearby Mayfield Depot.
Richard Upton, deputy CEO of London based U+I, told the M.E.N. the firm had no plans to tear down the Grade II listed boozer, known for its monthly Smiths Disco.
He added that regeneration would be at the heart of the project at the derelict station, which will include a new park, 1,300 homes, a hotel and more than 807,000 sq ft of office space.
It is also expected to create 7,500 jobs.
