Harborne and Kings Heath cinemas worth protecting say conservationists



TWO ‘beautiful’ Art Deco former cinemas could be granted protection from demolition after winning the approval of Birmingham conservationists.
The 1920s-built cinemas in Harborne and Kings Heath were described as ‘stunning’ and worthy of a legal preservation order by the city council’s Conservation and Heritage Panel.
The former Royalty Cinema, now Gala Bingo, in Harborne High Street boasts a ‘high quality Art Deco interior’ according to experts.
And the old Kingsway Cinema in Kings Heath High Street, currently empty, also boasts Art Deco architecture and an impressive dome.
