HAMISH MCRAE: Let's find the cash we need to reset Britain's house-building industry

We have a rising population and we need more homes. Interest rates are at an all-time low, so the money is there to build them. It's a bit of a no-brainer.
Construction is a domestic industry with relatively low import content, and it creates a lot of jobs. We may well need a building boom to help keep the economy growing next year. 
Despite the present post-Brexit uplift in the economy, the next couple of years are – as the Chancellor acknowledges –likely to be a bumpy ride.
