Government u-turn on 'protecting the police' means GMP must make more cuts
 

Greater Manchester Police must make yet more cuts worth £30m this year - partly because the government did a u-turn on a promise to spare policing budgets from the axe.
The then Chancellor George Osborne bragged to MPs in November: “There will be no cuts in the police budget at all. The police protect us, and we’re going to protect the police.”
But now it has emerged the Home Office has cut the grant it awards GMP by £2.4m this year.
