Government borrowing unexpectedly RISES by £500million in a pre-Budget headache for Chancellor Philip Hammond



Chancellor Philip Hammond suffered an eve of Budget headache today as official figures revealed an unexpected rise in Government borrowing.
Borrowing was up £500million to £8billion in October, new data from the Office for National Statistics revealed today.
The move was above economists' predictions of £7.5 billion, as debt interest payments hit a record high for the month at £6 billion. 
While the deficit in public spending remains at its lowest level for a decade, the increase lays bare the tight room for manoeuvre Mr Hammond has tomorrow.
