Gluten free bread and special desserts - the things you may not expect to get on prescription
 

Liverpool’s GPs have prescribed nearly £100,000-worth of gluten free bread since the start of 2017.
More than £600,000 has been spent by the NHS Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group on filling patients’ cupboards with ‘food for special diets’.
But the astronomical sum has attracted criticism from those who believe gluten free food is a waste of NHS money because it can be bought from supermarkets.
Since January Liverpool’s doctors have prescribed more than £200-worth of low protein cakes and £11,000 on gluten and wheat free pasta.
