Gateshead and Northumberland roads to share £10m from improvement fund
 

Two North East councils are to get £10m between them from a government pot to improve roads.
Gateshead and Northumberland are among 19 councils across England to get a share of £75m under the second tranche of the Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund.
The Department for Transport said the maximum individual award of £5m to Northumberland will go towards a £6.5m scheme to repair and strengthen key routes for the rural and regional economy.
