Bale scored six goals in Europe's top club competition in his first season at Real including in the final after making a world-record transfer from Tottenham in 2013.
He scored twice in the group stages of the 2014/15 competition but his 38th-minute strike in a 4-0 win over Ludogrets at the Bernabeu was to be the beginning of a 22-month dry spell in the Champions League.
However, he finally broke his curse 16 minutes into the visit of Legia Warsaw, cutting in from the right-hand side to fire Madrid into the lead.
