FTSE LIVE: Footsie makes minor gains at the bell but all eyes remain on the pound after its record fall this week 



08:20: The Footsie made a positive start to the session, buoyed by a strong performance in Asia and the US overnight.
In early trading the index was up 6 points at 7,040.2, having finished 41.1 points lower at 7033.25 yesterday - with United Utilities doing most of the damage following a broker downgrade.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.59 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.52 per cent and the Shanghai Composite increased 0.21 per cent. 
All eyes will again be on the pound after it fell earlier this week below $1.27 for the first time since 1985.
