French prosecutors probe Olympic bid



Alleged sum of £1.4 million paid by Tokyo to secure 2020 Games
The French financial prosecutor’s office yesterday confirmed that it is investigating suspicious payments from Tokyo’s Olympic bid team totalling £1.4 million.
A report in newspapers on Wednesday alleged a sum of £1m was paid during Japan’s successful campaign to host the 2020 Games to a secret bank account thought to have been held by a close friend of Papa Massata Diack, the son of former IAAF President Lamine Diack. The son is being sought by Interpol and the father is under investigation in France.
