The decision to ban fracking was brave. It meant facing down the might of petrochemical giants Ineos.
And it flies in the face of industry predictions of jobs and investment.
Fracking supporters say it could have been a turning point for energy.
The GMB union branded the ban “dishonest” as they wonder what’s next for job security.
But by blocking unconventional oil and gas extraction, the SNP Government are sending out a strong message that chimes with public opinion.
Of the 60,000 or more consultation responses the Government received, only one per cent backed fracking.
