'Five years ago nobody could've predicted a shopping event bigger than Christmas' - we go behind the scenes at Argos as it gears up for Black Friday mayhem



As I walked around the Argos distribution centre in Basildon, Essex, an area holding up to 11,000 white goods above my head, I would not have known it was the busiest period for the retailer.
The centre operates like a well-oiled machine with staff riding around on little cherry pickers on wheels, headsets giving them automated instructions on where to go next.
The size of eight football pitches, the centre is gearing up for Black Friday, an event which now brings in more sales for Argos than even Christmas.
