First transgender TV reporter in the North East tells her lifechanging story
 

Britain’s first transgender TV journalist has told of her delight at returning to screens in the North East, five years after quitting to become a woman.
India Willoughby left her dream job as an ITV newsreader in Cumbria after deciding she couldn’t go on living “an act” as Jonathan Willoughby.
The 51-year-old, who now lives in Blaydon, wanted to come clean to viewers and colleagues but was frightened of a ­possible backlash.
