Faith school founders resign over fear secular sponsor could destroy 'Christian ethos'
 

Three founders of a Sunderland faith school have resigned, saying the school’s Christian ethos and exam performance will not survive a takeover by a new sponsor.
Grindon Hall, a free school, was told last year that it would be taken over by Bright Tribe, a multi academy trust, after poor Ofsted results in 2014 left it in special measures.
The school’s founders were instructed by the Department for Education (DfE) to accept the sponsor despite what they described as “overwhelming opposition” from parents.
But the DfE said the school was letting pupils down, and the change could save it.
