Everton close in on deal for Manchester City's Eliaquim Mangala as Sam Allardyce demands defensive cover before January window shuts

Everton are expected to be active before Wednesday's 11pm transfer deadline and the main focus has become singing Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City on loan.
Sam Allardyce has been anxious to sign a left-footed defender, given that Leighton Baines and Ramiro Funes Mori are injured, and Mangala is an attainable target.
Should Everton, who have confidence of getting the deal over the line, it would be another blow to Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez, who first inquired about signing Mangala last May and has wanted him in this window, too.
