England paceman Jake Ball will be thrown in at the Gabba deep end for first Ashes Test against Australia

Jake Ball looked to have little chance of walking out at Brisbane when he was hobbling round England’s hotel 10 days ago on crutches wearing a protective boot.
Even when it became clear England’s medical staff were being extra cautious as he recovered from a sprained ankle, it seemed as though Ball would not have bowled enough overs to be thrown into the first Test at the Gabba.
