Geoffrey Boycott claimed Moeen Ali was ‘useless’ on a frustrating day for England in Brisbane.
Three wickets before lunch put Joe Root’s side in a dominant position on day three of the first Ashes Test but Steve Smith’s magnificent century dug Australia out of a hole.
The hosts’ skipper, who now has 21 Test hundreds, occupied the crease for over seven hours and was stranded on 141 not out when England eventually bowled Australia out for 328.
