Energy customer left stranded after power company’s shock debit
 

Tony Volante won’t forget the moment his card was declined because of “insufficient funds” when he went to pay for some shopping.
“I was so worried I didn’t know what was going on. My wife Jean and I manage on state pensions so we always know how much we can spend. We aren’t allowed to be overdrawn because we don’t want to be,” says the 81-year-old from Devon.
After the shock rejection Tony went straight to his bank and was told a £362 payment withdrawn by his dual fuel supplier Green Star Energy (GSE) had cleaned out his account, triggering the shut-down.
