Elderly County Durham couple left terrified by burglar wielding a meat cleaver



An elderly North East couple and their children were left terrified after a burglar wielding a meat cleaver broke into their home.
The terrifying incident happened at 12.15am today when the man smashed his way into his victims’ home in Durham Road, Bishop Auckland .
Its owners - a woman in her 50s and a man in his 60s - were inside the house at the time, along with their teenage children.
Police said the suspect tied up the couple before leaving the house with a haul of cash, Barbour jackets and several pairs of Barbour shoes.
