ECHO Murder Files: Man slept next to body of his victim for two weeks
 

When caretaker Catherine Cassidy was reported missing on March 18, 1950, police officers forced their way into a basement flat - and made a gruesome discovery.
The decomposing body of Miss Cassidy was found slumped in a chair, alongside a copy of the Liverpool Echo dated February 28 that year.
The next day, officers detained Charles Kimmance, 68, who had been lodging with Miss Cassidy at 6 Victoria Road, in Waterloo, for two years. As police approached him at Alexandra Dock, Kimmance said: “I know what it’s for. It’s for Miss Cassidy. I can stop worrying now.”
