EastEnder Steve McFadden begs writers to let Phil Mitchell live



Please don’t kill me off!
That’s Steve McFadden’s cry to EastEnders producers as he battles to save his character.
As hard man and alcoholic Phil Mitchell, he was told in March that he had just 12 months to live after being diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver.
But Steve would prefer the character he has played for 26 years to survive.
“Yes, I want him to live,” he says, claiming not to know what Phil’s ultimate fate will be.
“He’s survived worse, he’s been shot, stabbed, battered, car crashes and burning stuff down. Hopefully he will get through this one as well.
