Durham teaching assistants vote overwhelmingly to walk



TEACHING assistants in Durham voted overwhelmingly for strike action yesterday to fight plans to slash their pay by up to 23 per cent.
The mainly female workforce was 93 per cent for strike action and other industrial action after Durham County Council announced that it would introduce “term-time only” pay for teaching assistants.
Unison general secretary Dave Prentis said: “This huge vote has taken place against a backdrop of bullying by councillors, head teachers and church leaders, all of whom should have known better.
