Durham MP demands protection for cosmetic surgery patients after 'botched' operation
 

An MP is demanding tough new regulations to protect patients undergoing cosmetic surgery after a North East mum said a procedure left her unable to close her eyes.
Kevan Jones, MP for North Durham, led a House of Commons debate calling for a new system of regulation so that patients can be sure cosmetic surgeons are properly qualified.
Cosmetic surgery is not currently considered to be a distinct speciality in its own right, so there is no common qualification proving that surgeons know what they are doing.
