Durham coastal wildlife could be set to receive a major conservation boost
 

The County Durham coast – gradually recovering from years of industrial pollution – should now be given extra protection for its marine life, urges a report.
The Wildlife Trusts report makes the case for the Durham Heritage Coast to be awarded Marine Conservation Zone status.
Durham is included in the report’s list of hoped-for new zones, which it says would complete a network of special places where habitats and wildlife can flourish to safeguard healthy and productive seas for the future.
