Drop 'Empire' from honours titles, says Liverpool FC's first black player Howard Gayle
 

Liverpool FC 's first ever black footballer has suggested the word 'Empire' should be dropped from honours titles after he himself turned down an MBE.
Howard Gayle, who made only five appearances for the first team in six years at Anfield but is etched into club folklore after a match-turning cameo as substitute in a European Cup semi-final against Bayern Munich in 1981, turned down an award in recognition of his community work in tackling racism with Kick It Out, football's equality organisation, back in August.
