Carr played Algy in a production of The Importance Of Being Earnest, mounted by Irish writer James Joyce.
The farcical history of the production – which took place in real life – is recounted by an ageing Carr and framed as a surreal debate between Joyce, Tristan Tzara, founder of anti-art movement Dadaism, and Lenin, fomenting the Russian Revolution.
