Driver jailed for six years for killing 'loving family man' Gavin Bolam in Hebburn hit-and-run
 

A former soldier has been jailed for six years for killing a “decent and loving family man” from South Tyneside in a “despicable” hit-and-run crash.
Gavin Bolam, 57, died after being hit from behind by a car that mounted the pavement while walking home from a night out with his best friend on April 9.
On Tuesday Allan Hale, of Appleby Gardens, Gateshead , pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving, two charges of failing to stop after a road accident and failing to provide a specimen.
