'Don't be blinded to the hard Brexit threat by today's boom times', warns car chief, as bosses call for UK to stay in the single market

Britain’s record-breaking car export boom risks stalling if the UK leaves the EU’s single-market as a result of Brexit, the head of the UK motor industry warns.
Mike Hawes, boss of The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, fears ministers are being ‘blinded’ and ‘lulled into a false sense of security’ by Britain’s current buoyant car production and sales performance.
The imposition of tariffs and other barriers to free trade if Britain were outside the single-market could put thousands of jobs and billions of pounds of investment at risk, Mr Hawes said.
